It's amazing how many "Freedom Loving" types here advocate enslaving our young folk for various reasons. Lindy, I've been thinking about this, and it seems to me that if everybody does it (serve), it's not slavery....it's just citizenship. What was wrong in the last draft, IMO, was that everybody didn't have to go. That might not have been slavery, but it wasn't fair. I think universal draft (with the majority serving in the military) would do wonders for this country, not the least of which would be to counteract provincialism (when I went in I discovered that there were Yankees and black folks who turned out to be pretty damn good). I also don't expect it to happen. I enjoy your thread, Happy New Year! Bob
