So what do we do....nuke the Gazan people? They want their freedom. No - but freedom is not their goal. You first have to stop using American ideals and dreams for the region and deal with the facts as they are. Israel exists and wants to live in peace, Hamas and the Palestinians in general want Israel destroyed. The best we can hope for is to reduce Hamas influence and encourage more moderate Palestinian action. Let me try one more time. Do you know why Hamas and Hezbollah came into existence? Its because of Israel. Those org. would not exist if Israel did not exist. Hezbollah came into existence because the Israelis ignored the sovereignty of Lebanon and invaded Lebanon in order to capture some Palestinians who had fled the West Bank. During the time Israel occupied Lebanon, Palestinians were slaughtered by Lebanese Christians under the watchful eye of Ariel Sharon who at that time was the Israel commanding officer in Beirut. He was later tried by an Israelis military tribunal and found guilty and stripped of his command. As an aside, he then went on to become a director of housing and promoted the building of Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Really...a wonderful, wonderful guy. The Lebanese were furious at Israel's lack of respect for their sovereignty and that anger gave birth to Hezbollah. There is a similar story with Hamas. Every violent act of Israel births another violent org. committed to fighting them. Do they not get any credit for their determination? They're blind religious zealots - your favorite people - I can't see giving credit for creating a cult like worship of death for glory to god. So are the Israelis. Israel is not like us.....a secular state. They are a Jewish state. Some of their religious zealots assassinated Rubin because he was talking peace with the Palestinians. They are some of the most rabid zealots in the region. It was a mistake putting Bush in the presidency. Obama will do no better - but I hope I'm wrong. No, you don't.....but he will do better.
