I have visited HK only twice, and then only briefly years ago, and yet found the city interesting and livable, given sufficient means. That's a lot more than what I can say about NYC or LA. Whether it's a legacy of British class society I do not know. OTOH, Singapore, another royal outpost, did not impress me. Squeaky clean regimentation - to the point of being antiseptic (devoid of life).
