I am expecting 2009 to be the worst economic year of my lifetime, and am planning accordingly. People under 30 are in for a major shock, as they have never seen anything remotely close to what is about to happen.

I was in a welding class in the community college last semester, just to learn the right way to do it. At the end of the semester the instructor privately told a group of students that the high paying auto industry jobs were gone forever, but if they were good enough they might be able to get jobs somewhere. He also said that only the good ones would be able to remain in the welding field as the competition for available jobs would be fierce. This actually seemed to surprise some of the students given the expressions on their faces.
