if we'd displayed your skepticism back in the early days of oil discovery, we'd have never built all of this infrastructure to support an oil based economy, which has served it's purpose for decades now.

Dude.. the entire reason people were drilling for oil back then was to refine KEROSENE, which they used for lighting their houses because the cost of whale oil had gone through the roof.

It was LATER when they recognized that they could refine it into a product that could be combusted in an engine that the oil boom took off. The supply was ALREADY there, and the big discoveries of it in Texas only made it more inevitable that America would heavily depend upon vehicles. It became part of our culture, as well as necessary given the distances people needed to travel. But it was based upon what was then perceived as an inexhaustible supply..

The difference between then and now is that even if solar might be getting more market competitive with fossil generation, the electric vehicle market is based upon a relatively rare and expensive commodity, namely Lithium. Were Lithium as widely available as oil was in it's early days, I'd be hopping right on the electric vehicle bandwagon with you. But it's not, and you haven't got the vaguest concept of market based economics.

You're a firm believer in a "command economy", not one based upon demand. And we know what happens to command economies.
