To save energy, Google plans to use Intel solid state drives to replace hard drives.

Google might be interested in ECORAM. For mostly read-only applications, ECORAM will be a lot faster than SSD but slower than DRAM.

ECORAM won't even be considered for applications that do a lot of writes. However for search engines it might be a good enough when compared to SSD's.
