Just being realistic. Throughout history, the strongest force generally can win the battle. However, some battles are not worth winning. This might be one of them.

To take two examples from history. Masada and, being a Texan, the Alamo. In both cases, a large force managed to reduce the opposition which resulted in the deaths of the defenders. In both cases, however, they became symbols that emboldened the opposition. For the Jews, it ended badly. For the Texans, not so much. It helps to have the enemy leader to be a complete moron...

Well, ok. Santa Anna wasn't a complete moron. However, his grasp of the military was pretty much restricted to having a snappy uniform and looking dashing on a horse.

Sometimes the fact you can do something doesn't mean you should.
