Sure. I don't want to force companies to do anything unprofitable. However, there are plenty of companies right now in the US and outside of it that are sinking hundreds of billions of dollars into battery tech and into EVs, because they believe the probability is high that they will see a return on investment. I read about far larger numbers being invested overseas, which makes me worry that we aren't doing enough in this country to support this nascent industry. Our government has traditionally been a very heavy investor in science and technology R&D in this country and is indirectly responsible for the long term success of Silicon Valley, through their past symbiotic relationship and investment. Under Bush, that R&D has dried up. I'd like to see the Obama administration crank that investment spending right back up to the levels we saw it in the 1990s.

We all need to realize that our economic and military might is dependent on science and technology investment more than anything else. It is in our best interests to forever compete to stay number one in science and technology. If we ever falter for too long, as Bush has done for 8 years, we will lose our pre-eminence. And for all our warts, I still believe this country and our system is better than any that has ever been created. I want to see us stay on top, because what's good for the US is good for the world, in most cases.
