Sam, Check out the link to that NASA conference. One thing I've observed over the years is that the tape biz is a hype-fest, which is why I always find it useful to check out both sides of the story. The Watkinson PDF file at that site is probably the most unbiased comparison between linear vs helical scan recording that I have seen to date. Gus P.S. The Watkinson paper also a section on Magneto-optical tape recording which is relevant to QNTM's NFR tape product.
