When Madoff finally admitted to the ponzi scheme, I recall the talking heads on CNBC saying it just goes to show you, you have to do your due diligence.

If the SEC can't figure it out on 8 occasions, and they were looking for it, how am I going to find out? I would have been suckered in too if that opportunity came my way.

This is one time I sympathize with the rich folks for being duped, although some small time people got duped as well.
