You guys are getting hooked on semantics. Of course, I knew that we were authorized to go to Iraq. Bush Jr was clever enough to get us just the wiggle room we needed to interpret the UN mandate as a mandate for war. However, I'm talking about adhering to the substance of a UN coalition, versus the actual coalition that we ended up with.
All you have to do is look at the coalition that Bush Sr put together for Gulf War I, which resulted in the US paying almost nothing for that war, versus the coalition Bush Jr put together for this more recent war, which cost us $800B and is still adding up.
So when I say the UN is the place to handle these things, I mean we shouldn't pay lip service to the UN like Bush Jr did. Instead, we should play ball within the constraints of the UN and try to get the best deal possible, just like Bush Sr did.
This is why I am still proud of having voted for Bush Sr, but am embarrassed to admit that I voted for Jr. Junior was a failure. His father was a good President, in my opinion.
So the question is was Bush Jr stupid not to do what his father did? And if you continue to support Junior's failures, does that make you stupid? |
