Maurice-- My man, you have a way of nudging me just enough that I'm forced to consider the validity of my positions. I like that. Like most folks, I accept a pattern of thinking that's familiar, comforting. And then you, Maurice, look at the same thing I'm looking at, but see it more clearly. More detail, I think. The friend was a buddy from my Post Office era. For years, three of us young guys worked graveyard because there weren't any supervisors. Worked all night, drank beer and cavorted all day. About the time I quit, Doug Hansen (the climber) got serious about climbing big hills. We hadn't been good chums in a decade, maybe. His death had a major impact on me, though. Toys don't matter so much. Serenity has greater value. TBG
