Truman was against it at first, but some dual-loyalty Mikey types and some within his administration convinced him it was a good idea, domestic-politically. mideastweb.org If he'd have only gone with his first instinct, that the US support for Israel would cost us more than we wanted to pay! What a historic underestimate! Imagine if we viewed Israel (if it existed) as just another country to look down on today!
