He does not get it yet. The right wingers are going down big. Among the minority groups, they are seen as racists. The strong opposition to the bill to give amnesty to illegals was strongest among the GOP.......why? 2 reasons: 1. racism 2. the idea of granting amnesty to someone who broke the law...they can't get past that. Simpletons. Maybe it was a convenient way to disguise racism. Hispanics will never vote for them...and you can add all the other immigrants and people of color to that as well (except Cubans). If will be just like those anti-abortion groups that won't vote democrat. That will be a huge loss for the GOP. All the Republicans had was the rich as well as the rural white vote; now they lost some of them too (I mean the rich) them too. Remember that first bailout vote that failed. Intelligent people saw that the GOP was willing to risk the financial system just to play to public opinion. In that situation, Dems were seen as the ones who put aside politics to pass a bill that was not popular..that takes guts! Like I said before, you will not see a republican president for decades..that is how long it will take get the party on track
