Russia's population and infrastructure are mostly in the west, so it's ability to project power eastward from Siberia is practically nil.

Even if the Yellowstone Caldera erupted in a giant cataclysm tomorrow and ripped the heart out of the USA and Canada, Russia wouldn't be much of a player in the recovery and future political arrangements. The logical outside players would be: Europe, Latin America, Japan, and Australia/New Zealand.

P.S. China could help by cancelling our debts. ;>)
