The Surgeon General Position is very much a media position unless there is a major epidemic.

Communicating to the public about smoking, obesity, AIDS, medical tests like colonoscopy (not fun), etc. It would be nice to have someone good at communicating.

Having been on TV for a while, I trust he will not be making any Joyce Elders comments.

Joyce Elders, many of us recall, recommneded that masturbation be taught in school.

With the current No Child Left Behind policy, this would now require mandatory competency testing, and remedial instruction for those that couldn't past the first time.

Not the sort of thing we need in a era of tighter federal budgets.
