One of my pals got whacked in that purge--IBM scratched a brand new 1 billion dollar line. My friend's package was pretty good, but a couple of years later they had new product lines running at East Fishkill and made very sweet offers to get him to return. He did after they assured him of all his previous seniority, benefits, etc and a lot more money. That was several years ago and he has been full bore ever since. It will be interesting to see how that division fares this time.
