>> Yeah...he got what, 10% of the vote? Please...
Well, he won 7 states outright, coming in second to McCain.
As to what portion of the vote he got, like anything else it depends on the state.
IA 34% NH 11% NV 8% SC 30% LA 14% HI 14% FL 14% AZ 9% AR 60% CA 12% GA 34% MO 32% OK 33% TN 34% WV 52% KS 60% OH 31% TX 38% VT 15%
Well, you get the idea. It was far more than 10%, more like 20-25%. And it was Huckabee's first national exposure, nobody even knew who he was, at all. Unlike Obama he was not annointed by his party, and frankly, he has something no other republican or democrat in the race has, which is an unsurpassed fundamental decency that is above politics.
Most of the GOP felt Huckabee was not conservative enough, so he was discounted early on by practically everyone.
There is a strong possibility Huckabee would have defeated Obama IMO. He is every bit as articulate, but offered substantial administrative experience that Obama didn't have. But the GOP felt McCain was more conservative. It was a mistake on the part of the party.
As I said, you totally underestimate him. |
