Re: "That would be a start. But the effects of presidential policies can continue even after they have been replaced by new policies by a new president,"

Sure.

But --- for the long-term decisions of history, I'm going to have to leave all that to future historians... because I will be long dead and gone (and I have no crystal ball to look forward and read those history books from the future with....)

So, I suppose I'll have to content myself with discussing things that can be solidly quantified right now - while I'm still alive.

Things like the recorded budget deficits (or surpluses). The real annual growth (or decline) rates. Trade balances. Median and Mean real incomes. Wealth effects. Productivity. Short-term results of foreign and of domestic initiatives (because the long-term results are - drat it! - only going to be known for sure by those future guys), etc.

As far as "Presidents" go... I'd probably start with the *actual budgets* that they put forward and then sign into law, (figuring that's when they begin to have an impact upon the economy). And other things that they actually bring about.

Re: "I'm more interested in your response to the other two points"

Not to be flip but... you are joking, right?

(I mean, I'm a simple guy... you bring up a point, I discuss a point. But you throw a dozen things against the wall - perhaps hoping that some of them may 'stick' - and I'm apt to lose track of what you consider 'important'.)

So... what point?
