I will tell you that, whatever the mistakes, IBM gave the PC its start and made it a credible business. Before the IBM PC, it was a floundering notion.

You cannot possibly be serious with this remark.

I was developing software for microcomputers, for a living, starting in 1979 BEFORE the PC came on the market. Sure, a more limited market, but I had clients lined up. This is at a time when you called MSFT for support and you might well talk to Gates himself.

IBM committing to the PC definitely sped some things up, but if you believe the PC was a "floundering notion" without IBM you absolutely don't have a clue. I'm assuming that remark was a slip because nobody who was part of the computer industry at the time could believe this to be correct.
