WITNESSES IN GAZA: HAMAS EXTERMINATING FATAH PEOPLE

While fighting IDF troops, Hamas does not forget the internal front: activists in Gaza report exterminations, shootings in knee-caps and arrests of Fatah people by Hamas. "Don't you think that we've been weakened, we'll close our accounts with you" - Hamas people threaten the Fatah supporters in Gaza, fearing that the latter will try to use the Israeli operation in order to re-gain control of Gaza.

A short time after start of the Israeli "Cast Lead" operation, Hamas operatives received SMS messages instructing them to enhance surveillance of Fatah activists. "We must not neglect the internal security" said the message. Hamas also ordered groups loyal to it to take part in Fatah persecutions. Fatah people have recently told that they were explicitly threatened by internal security organs of Hamas. "We will not let you dance on our sons' dead bodies" they were told by Hamas people.

In an attempt to enhance its control of the strip, Hamas put hundreds of Fatah people under house arrest. In one case on Thursday morning last week Fatah people were ordered to stay at home, except for Friday prayer time. Every time they went out they had to be accompanied by Hamas people. They were threatened with "field trials" if they don't comply.

Fatah activists told that one of their people, Bardan Najad, tried to ignore the house arrest. Hamas operatives assaulted him and when his family members tried to help him his father was shot dead and Najad was seriously wounded. A 76 years old woman and a girl were also wounded in the incident.

Over the last few days the tension inside Hamas has increased, and the militants imposed curfews over entire quarters where Fatah people live. A number of Fatah activists were murdered, among them a 70 years old Gazan whose son was not found at home. After being asked where his son was and not providing a satisfactory answer, he was shot dead on the spot.

However the people who are in real danger are those suspected in collaboration with Israel. Before the Israeli operation they were kept in the central Gaza prison. Many of them escaped after the place was bombed by Israel and currently they are being hunted by Hamas and civilians that are demanding revenge. In the recent days several suspected collaborators were murdered, one of them, Yasser Zanun, was blamed with providing [Israel] with information that allowed taking out of wanted terrorists. He was captured by civilians, with the help of Hamas, shot dead and his body was thrown away at the beach.
