DU is used in armor piercing munitions. Because it is denser, i.e. heavier per unit volume, it means the munition packs a bigger punch.

Given the general lack of armor in Hamas, I guess the Israelis are using those munitions against structures. Now, on impact, there will be a certain amount of the munition that gets vaporized, and that is how the Gaza residents are ingesting it.

Same thing happened to our troops during Gulf War I.
