Until we knew the real threat and started dismantling the terrorist organization, it was bound to happen. That's pretty scary. It can happen again. We did know it was a real threat - we knew it then and still do. The main thrust of all this started with the Iranian Revolution 30 years ago and it's grown to the point where now it's almost impossible to imagine dismantling it. The only hope is to contain it as best as we can. We have a presence in Iraq and Afghanistan - on Iran's borders. But that doesn't even begin to address the other radical terrorists organizations that have cropped up around the world, almost all of them radical Islamist groups that had their origins in Iran.
