As a dropout, I've got no certification in anything. Early enough I discovered what "things are counter productive" and what increases quality and worth the effort. Certification is barrier of entry to a profession. I helps the ones who are certified to the detriment of the the ones out. It is marketing by another mean (Cisco certification). I build a house in Brazil. Got it 85% right thanks to the foreman in charge and ten years of book reading, living in all kinds of houses plus 25 years abroad building complex projects in challenging places. The civil engineer (poor manager) and the architect (narrow minded) were a total disaster. But Brazil has as much ceetification as Europe. (Unions ganged up with Regional Councils which certify people.) It is a pity that you never married a Brazilian woman, spoke Portuguese and could get lots of work as a process engineer in Brazi! Certification is right for doctors, builders of poison gas plants and nuclear plants and weapons of mass destrcution. For hairdessers, photographers, journalists, uhm I can see wayo from 16.000Km away....
