Bob--
I suspect you mean the GW movement is based on science. It is not science when the proponents say the science is in - end of debate. It is simply not legitimate to refuse open debate. Science is an hypothesis that is tested. What we are being given is a fait accompli - no questions to be asked. This is not science - it is tyranny.

You seem to think that the debate about CC just began. It has been going on with increasing intensity in scientific circles since the 1970s. The reason it has gained more public currency in the past 10 years or so is that most scientists who engaged in that debate became convinced that the data showed with more than 90% probability that human generated carbon emissions are affecting the climate in deleterious ways. They didn't simply "cut off" that debate. They debated and debated. Frankly, it isn't up to you or me or anyone else posting on this thread. You can debate all you want, I've even participated in some of those discussions, but found the same points--including canards about sun spots and that the hockey stick hypothesis had been "disproved" or some such thing--were brought up over and over again and it didn't really matter what I or others said in response to those points, the people making them would simply keep making them.

If you want to continue to blow your smoke, blow away. I'm not stopping you. I just got tired of engaging in fruitless discussion.
