The problem is that the clock going to zero happens all the time. I remember commenting during the Baltimore vs. Miami game that the defense should be allowed to tee off on the offense once the clock goes to zero. It happened at least four times during the game without the offense getting a penalty. On one occurrence the Ravens were ruled off side. I agree that the refs should start calling that closer. Since they don't, arguing how much is too much time after to goes to zero seems petty.
