Xstrata restarts Australia mine after heavy rain

uk.reuters.com

Xstrata Plc, the world's fourth-largest copper miner, has resumed open pit mining operations at its Ernest Henry copper and gold project in Australia after rain disruptions, the company said on Thursday.

Mining operations were halted at the weekend because of heavy rain across northern Queensland state, which had cut road access and disrupted rail services.

Xstrata said Ernest Henry's concentrator had continued to operate despite the rain.

Ernest Henry has an annual production capacity of 115,000 tonnes of copper-in-concentrate and 120,000 ounces of gold-in-concentrate.
