Here is yet more proof that brinker was far from alone in failing to foresee this bear market. Longleaf Partners Fund, which has completely trashed the S&P over the long term, sent a letter to shareholders along with the annual statement. In the letter, they say: "Although we recognized at the end of 2007 that credit was tightening and the burst of the housing bubble could have wide ranging repercussions...it is (now) evident that we did not anticipate the severity of the credit dislocation or the depth of the recession that followed."
