Dots and Spots is a term used to mean giving singular service to a customer for say internet ADSL as opposed to deploying a new network uniformly across all the customers in a local ( e.g. neighborhood, city etc..)

DAVIC and DSM-CC are internationl standards organizations driving the interopearbility standards for access to broadband networks - this includes access standards as well as higher layer architectures and protocols for things like Internet access, Broadcast Digital TV access, Video on demand access etc... This is were the details of how you would really sign on to a broadband network is being done.

SOHO is the acronym for Small Office Home Office. People who work at home or in small remote offices are SOHO application. This is as opposed to the more residential Web Surfers. Both relatively big applications for both ADSL and Cable Modem technologies (as well as the more full service FTTC, VDSL and HFC approaches).

The ITU is the International Telecommunications Union ( formerly CCITT) which is the world wide organization nearly universally accepted and quite powerful for establishing telecommunication standards and is fed and influenced by national organizations or ad-hoc like ANSI T1, European ETSI, ATM Forum, ADSL Forum, Bellcore, DAVIC, DSM-CC, IEEE etc.. ITU standards are the final word in general but they are a bit slow due to the world wide nature of its processes. In general, the more aggressive organizations like ATM Forum and ADSL Forum are in close tune and a big influence with the direction of the ITU.
