Perhaps there wasn't a formal smoke-filled room manipulation, but the Enron backed removal of energy market regulation set the stage for the California electric price spike back in 2000 and the oil spike this past summer.

Consumers were bilked out of billions. By who? If you made the money would you admit to it?

It's high time we limit speculation in critical commodities. Yes, there is a need for futures markets to allow users to lock in prices for future delivery, but to allow the kind of speculation that leads to disruptive price swings is not necessary or good for the economy.
