"Imo you need to take a step back and not be so passionate. Politics isn't science; never was and never will be. Politics *thrive* on ambiguity whereas science does its level best to overcome ambiguity. Where necessary it does so by setting boundaries. "Political science" is an oxymoron. "Economics" tries to sell itself as a science of money. It's actually the politics of money. That's what made the old joke funny:<<

"Here is how I would respond to the paragraph above.
First, one's politics is who they are. It is their philosophy of life. Very important and telling. It is also how one sees the roles and responsibilities of the individual and of society. Their tribe.
Does their society/tribe take care of their old, young and ill? Do they make sure they have universal health care. How does society deal with sexism, racism and gay bashing?
So passion is quite appropriate (said the old civil rights activist-lol).
Secondly, political science of a very serious field to study. Our consitution was a modern day marvel that finally freed the common man. Humans do not learn much from deduction. They learn from education.
We learned from the ancient Greeks, Romans, English, French, Magna Carter and we learned from the social theories of Max Weber, Gailbraith and Huxley; and we are still learning as the structure of society evolves.
When you say political science is an oxymoron, just think of the IDEA of the three branches of government counterbalancing each other, the IDEA of a senate and a house to address both population and states in a more or less equal manner.
These are revolutionary ideas other countries still need to learn. |
