Actually, the most important point in what he said was:

"I also know, given the exact same data, at the exact same time in history, that I would give the exact same advice."

Don't try to make it something it isn't. In all wars, mistakes are made. Every last one of them. And the generals would always do things differently in hindsight.

What it important is that he made good judgments based on the information he had available to him.

A rather obvious truth, I think.
