I agree with your assessment of O's weak understanding of democracy's roots.

Hiked today through terrain almost identical to the lovely ice palace scene from Dr Zhivago. It reminded me of Lara's Theme, so searched for the clip from that movie at youtube. Unfortunately no one uploaded David Lean's stunning imagery but the landscape accompanying the music is almost as beautiful:
