>>> Bush is a joke.
One of the great presidents of modern times.
His legacy is huge. While there are negatives, you didn't mention them. Most importantly, he has set up a structure that will endure and protect America for the next 50 years, some of which Obama will NOT be able to dismantle. What he DOES dismantle, he does so at his own political risk and at the risk of American lives.
Katrina, as the history is written, will be seen as a local failure, and not a federal failure. If one contrasts Katrina, for example, with the Johnstown Flood of 1889, it is evident that the similarities relate not to mishandling of the situation, but due to the nature of the incident. The federal response to Katrina was totally appropriate in the circumstances, although I do take issue with some of the wasteful spending in the aftermath.
Iraq was the best solution to a difficult problem. For the next 50 years, the Iraq War will pay dividends to the United States, and those who gave their lives there will not be treated like dirt, even though they are being so treated today.
Bush's priorities did not involve fiscal responsibility, and I can live with that. But he DID NOT "cause" the financial crisis that recently cropped up. Anyone who has any basic knowledge of economics knows that economic cycles happen. It remains to be seen whether he'll be credited with having kept the economy from collapsing with the massive bailout of the banks. I think it was a waste, but I could well be wrong.
Everyone piled on GWB early on, the liberals hated him, and he didn't give a shit. He just did his job. History -- starting 10, 20, 30 years from now, will remember him favorably. |
