Israel at peace with Hamas is much like the US at peace with Al Quaeda. How does one negotiate with folks who think you are descendants of pigs and monkeys? Did you note Friedman had an op ed piece right next to this one. Most was silly talk but TF did manage to say that israel, though clumsy, did in fact win the war in lebanon by making the cost for hizbolla to high politically as their civilian constituents paid a heavy price. Nazralla actually apologized and said if he knew what israels reaction would be, he never would have started it. I guess thats the understanding hamas will have to come away with for this to be successful at least in the short to intermediate run. One wonders on who gave the order for the rocket attacks, given what happened in lebanon and the regrets hizbo expressed? Was it the clown in syria who ordered it or fanatics in the military wing on the ground? It is hard to believe that it was iran, because they are not that stupid. Please note the PR effects are fading as the war recedes as story #1. Euros back to latte drinking. There is only so much war one can take before you need to just turn off the TV set.
