NEW YORK (AP) -- Business software company Oracle Corp. cut about 500 jobs last week in its North American sales and consulting businesses, the Wall Street Journal said Wednesday.

A representative for Oracle could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
The Journal, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, said the elimination of 500 jobs on Friday was not as much as some people had expected.
That number represents a small fraction of the roughly 84,000 employees the Redwood City, Calif.-based company has globally, according to financial-information service CapitalIQ. |
