Remember that library from Pergamus? It contained the Ptolemy map. The Ptolemy map was a map showing a round earth. The ancients did not believe in a flat earth. This came into general acceptance from views held by the common population after the fall of Rome. The ancients knew much more than we realize today, even the approximate size of the earth.
