I would buy an American car or light utility vehicle (and that means real utility, like a working person's pickup truck)in a New York minute if I felt

a) that in terms of reliability, ease of use and low ownership cost it would demonstrably excel Japan's and Germany's best, and

b) if the styling departments would wake the [select crude term from extensive menu] up and build a product that would define the beginning of the 21st century, leading to nostalgic magazine articles 25, 50 and 75 years into the future, always assuming continuity of our culture.
