Our local birds, already decimated from habitat destruction and the like, have taken a big hit due to the heavy snow cover over an extended period. The kale poking through the snow in my garden is already perking up though. What an amazing vegetable -- I love being able to eat fresh greens in the middle of winter. Kale requires almost no care and seeds itself. Well, maybe not in Alaska... LC
