Documents released by the Senate Finance Committee strongly suggest that Geithner knew, or should have known, what he was doing when he did not pay self-employment taxes in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. After his failure to pay was discovered, first by the IRS and later during the vetting process, Geithner paid the federal government a total of $42,702 in taxes and interest.

The fact that he paid the taxes days before his nomination is damning. Unless one believes in coincidences, which I don't, it is obvious that he knew about the liability and had no intention of paying it until he realized, via the vetting process, that it would stop his appointment dead in its tracks.

It is totally unacceptable to consider this man to run Treasury. Clearly, he has no respect, whatsoever, for the tax collection process.

While I've remained hopeful about the upcoming Obama presidency, this kind of corruption is a horrific start. This, Holder, and Richardson -- all HUGE SNAFUS that can't just be swept under the table.

The Obama presidency is starting off more corrupt than even the Clinton Presidency.
