The Treasury Secretary nominee is popular with republicans as well as democrats. Some speculated he would have been on the short list for treasury if McCain or Romney had been elected.

Also, don't forget that taxes is one of those issues many in congress have had some challenges with over the years....in one form or another. If they dump one guy on failings like this, then all the senators on the committee that vote against him will be checked out by the press. If they had any past "irregularities" in their deductions, payments, etc....well, you can see how noisy it could get.

The guy will get confirmed after being approprietly contrite for a week or so. Republicans will vote for him too.
