370... PolyOne Corp., the Avon Lake polymer compounding company, is cutting 370 jobs -- including about 60 in Northeast Ohio -- and slashing other costs to address what it calls an "unprecedented declines in demand" for its products and services.

The company started telling employees today that it was eliminating about 30 people at its Avon Lake headquarters and another 30 at its facilities in Massillon, Norwalk and North Baltimore. Their jobs will be eliminated over the next several weeks. All 370 job cuts -- representing 8 percent of the work force -- are considered permanent.

PolyOne has been hammered by lower demand for its products in the housing and automotive industry, which prompted the company to streamline its manufacturing operations and supply chain starting in July 2008.
