It's all about thinking long term. I'm getting the distinct impression you would not make a very good venture capitalist.

I can imagine what you'd tell all those would be entrepreneurs. "Sorry, I'm not investing one dime until you can prove to me that you are already profitable."

If Silicon Valley thought like you did, then companies like Amazon and many of the other greats would have never attracted investment dollars.

You think in terms of expenses. I think in terms of investment for a long term return. All R&D is done for this purpose. Otherwise, why would any company or government ever invest in R&D?

BTW, I've been reading about the recovery plan Obama has been floating. It's very heavy in increasing R&D across the board. I'm glad we'll be spending money on science and technology again. It's about time this country gets back to the things that made us rich and powerful, instead of spending all of our time and money on wars with no return on investment.
