That's bad. But a much bigger problem is that wire tapping laws in general do not apply to the internet. And yes, that is what I said. It has therefore been considered "legal" by the DoD, FBI, and other 3 letter agencies (under Bush) to intercept DOMESTIC phone calls of US citizens that use VoIP technology (i.e. everyone that uses their Cable or Satellite TV providers for their phone service). The wire tap laws have not kept up with the technology.

What is so insidious about this is that most people have NO CLUE that this is the case. I KNOW this is true because I know some large defense contractors who make the software to do this very thing. And it makes me sick that I know this first hand. The people who do this are often arrogant aholes with no clue about the concepts of Constitutional law. The others are automatons who just do what they are told. These idiots consider themselves "Patriots" while they work to undermine the intent of the Constitution and our privacy laws.

And don't think it would leak out more often because the people who do this work sign their lives away in legal documents that threaten major felonies and jail for any disclosure.

Why are they so afraid of disclosure? Because they know that the American people would never stand for this behavior! There is routine spying on ordinary US citizens all day, every day and it needs to be stopped.

One of the people that is involved in this activity told me that one of their biggest fears is the ACLU because no other organization has the resources to go after them in court. They hate what they fear.

So any thinking person can now understand that there IS at least one concrete way that you can help to fight this activity. We can help to fund those who have the clout to fight this in court. I don't like much of what the ACLU does but they are the only ones who can and do stand up. Their role in keeping a free society is very significant. I did not understand this until about 10 years ago.
