No goal post moved a millimeter.

Clinton was the first, that I know of, to disregard the precedent Adams set over 200 years ago. If you know of an instance that is contrary to this, please let me know.

If you know anything about Adams' presidency, you know that he debated this issue with his cabinet exhaustively, and came to the conclusion that a fugitive -- a person who was attempting to escape criminal justice -- should not be pardoned.

Now, it has undoubtedly happened over the years that such persons have been pardoned. No debate about that. But the Adams precedent has largely been respected.

I do not know whether there is another instance of a pardon granted by a president for money as happened with Clinton.
