I was half kidding when I said that to Jeff about DD. Obviously more than a few experienced, well educated fund managers THOUGHT they did enough DD - just not the same DD the guys that reported it to the SEC a few years back and DIDN'T invest.

I pretty much follow the pennystock scams - so that makes it pretty easy to dredge up the red flags on those.

But maybe there are no outward signs of a scam, that is one day until, like Madeoff, you get an account statement that shows a series of trades that couldn't possibly have occured in real life. Are you locked in till the end because your intial DD didn't catch the fraud? Jeff has a point."

Am wondering one thing though - maybe Jeff worked this out as well - if everyone just gave back their paper profits if indeed the money was never invested, would everyone get their original investment back - minus what Bernie spent on himself?
That would be fair. If they can find the money!
