My point was that using LBJ as an answer does not answer why conservatives do not mind borrowing and spending. They don't, was my point. They are simply plain vanilla big spending liberals masquerading as conservatives to fool their supporters. Liberals think if you are going to spend, then tax yourself, do not pass it on to the kids. You mean like JFK and LBJ didn't do? One of the amusing routines of current political debate is to see liberals pretending that balanced budgets were ever a hallmark of liberalism. It's on par with the current crop of 'conservatives' claiming credit for the Civil Rights Act of 1965.
