Many people today have no concept of world history. The subject has been downplayed in public schools for decades. Sadly, many students never learn that all events on earth had/have a historical context. That's the reason they don't understand why those living today cannot and should not be expected to atone for dark periods in history. Today we have Somali pirates--couple centuries ago there were the equivalent of Somali slave traders. Western civilization can be credited with most major advances of the human race.
