I golfed some years back with the head of Xcel energy for our region. They had a few years before finished the damn at Jim Falls. He said we can't build coal, we can't build nuclear, we can't build powerlines and now we can't build hydro. The dam ended up at twice budget and now the payback on that dam was like 2050. He said it's the last one they will ever even attempt to build. He said the grid is under so much distress that rolling black outs are only a ways away. I said well what is going to happen then.

This bespectacled polite 65 year old man looked at me and said, "F em. I don't Fing care anymore. I hope the green bastards freeze to death in the dead of winter and die slow painful deaths when the power goes out."

The force with which he said it convinced me that he meant every word of it.
