robert:

To clear the air on the DSP sales growth issue, here are the numbers:

Quarter TXN DSP sales ($MM) Sequential Chg % Yr/Yr Chg %

Q-1/96 585
Q-2/96 615 5
Q-3/96 638 4
Q-4/96 700 10
Q-1/97 763 9 30
Q-2/97 819 7 33
Q-3/97 840 3 32
Q-4/97E 882E 5E 26E

Talk to Max Post in the CFO's office if you have questions about these numbers.
As an ex TIer, I'm sure he'll be happy to help you. The last line is obviously
my estimate for Q4.

Two observations with regard to the above:

1. The 30% plus Yr/Yr growth in DSP sales we've seen the last several
quarters (kind of Intel-like, eh?) has obviously been obscured on
the overall top line by the collapse in DRAM prices.

2. The important question is not how fast DSPs are growing at TXN
(obviously they're booming), but how the company is going to deploy
the $2.5 billion they got from Raytheon IN THE DSP BUSINESS. This,
more than anything else IMHO, will determine if we have another INTC
or a wanna be.

Best regards,

Charlie

P.S. I'll have more on your other questions later.
